During the 1990s Gene Meyer designed several sets of porcelain tableware for Swid Powell.
The company founded in 1982 by Nan Swid and Addie Powell, produced innovative housewares designed by the foremost architects, fashion designers and artists of the time including Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Ettore Sottsass, Richard Meier, Calvin TsAO, Geoffrey Beene, Donald Sultan and Robert Lee Morris.
The Gene Meyer – Swid Powell dinnerware and dessert sets were sold at The Conran Shops, Bloomingdales and MoMa Shops.
In the mid 1990s The Museum Of Modern Art Shops commissioned Meyer to design paper napkin collections, wrapping paper, Christmas cards and a holiday dessert set of plates and mugs that were sold through the museum’s catalogs and shops.
